Since I’ve been on mini holiday and haven’t actually shot much in the last few weeks, canada goose canada I’ve decided to discuss something that’s been very crucial in my journey so far and that’s the power of social media. With Facebook, Twitter, Google+ (what ever that is) and other sites people are heavily reliant on these tools and their various devices to keep in touch with one another and let people know what they’re up but all in a rather impersonal way. Often the conversation seems to be relatively one-sided. Letting people know what you’re thinking-feeling-doing at all times is sort of a modern day postcard but rather than ending with the customary “wish you were here” it’s more like saying “don’t you wish you were here.”

But used the right way social media can bring people together and grant them an interaction they wouldn’t likely have been able to produce on their own. On this journey so far, I have been fortunate enough to connect with new people because we meet on one social media outlet or another. We would never encourage someone to stay at a stranger’s home they met on the street but somehow staying with canada goose sale “chancesmommy” and her family on Manitoulin Island felt like coming to an old friends place though I only met her through our interactions on Twitter. In fact I’ve now stayed with 5 different people across Canada I met through Twitter, Facebook, Tumblr and even my Canada Goose blog post.

The beauty of social media is that we can select our “friends” through our mutual likes and interests. As a photographer I have made numerous connections with other photographers, since we already have a common ground to which we can base our relationship on. Refine this some more to include those who also happen to be Canadian and new doors are opened. Last month when I rescued the dog and had no cheap canada goose one to turn to I decided to reach out to “WRLittle” a young man I had been communicating with on Tumblr who happened to also be a photographer, was from Saskatchewan but living in Manitoba and most importantly a dog lover. He immediately invited me to stay with him and through his landlord I was able to find a foster home for Maggie. I don’t know where else I would have turned and now I’d say I have a new friend based on real-time interaction (which can start me on an entirely new tangent of “cyber-friends” vs “meet-friends” but that’s a path for another day).

We chastise people for being addicted to their Blackberry’s or i-phones typing away about the “amazing” time they are having, all the while ignoring the person they are having this great time with.
